Can Siblings Be Included in Newborn Photos?
Absolutely, and honestly, some of my favourite images from any session are the ones with an older sibling in them!

Sibling moments are often the most genuine
There is something about a toddler meeting their baby brother or sister that cannot be recreated or staged. The curiosity. The slightly unsure poke at a tiny hand. The moment they decide this small, loud creature is actually pretty great. These are the photographs many parents end up treasuring the most, because they capture a relationship at its very beginning.

We do not expect perfect behaviour
If you are picturing a toddler sitting calmly and smiling on cue for a family photo, let that idea go completely. It is not realistic, and honestly, it is not what makes for a beautiful photo anyway. I would much rather capture your toddler mid giggle, mid meltdown, or completely uninterested in the camera and more interested in the dog. That is real life with little ones, and it deserves to be remembered exactly as it was.
A little planning helps, but nothing is forced
I usually suggest photographing sibling moments earlier in the session, before little legs and patience run out. We keep it playful and low pressure. No long sits, no repeated “look at the camera,” just gentle prompts and space for their personality to come through.

If it does not go to plan, that is completely okay too
Some toddlers want nothing to do with the session, and that is fine. We can capture what we can in the time they are willing to give us, even if that is only a few minutes. A single genuine moment is worth far more than ten forced ones.
Family photography across every stage, from a brand new sibling meeting to years down the track, is very much at the heart of what I do. If you would like your older children included in your newborn or Fresh 48 session, just let me know when we chat, and I will build the session around your whole family, not just the newest member of it.
